Proven Experience

OpenECU
Pi Innovo has been working with embedded model based controls on large complex programs for more than 20 years and introduced the OpenECU brand in 2003. Our OpenECU rapid controls prototyping systems have been used by both Pi Innovo and customer engineering teams to develop a broad range of prototype and production embedded controls applications in markets including automotive, heavy-duty, off-highway, autonomous vehicles and aviation (flying cars).

OpenECU combines the robustness and reliability of a production ECU with a proven user friendly rapid controls prototyping development platform. Because our controllers are designed to be customized, our customers’ specific application needs can be satisfied without compromise.

Custom ECUs
Pi Innovo has been designing, developing and customizing ECUs for more than 20 years. Many applications are safety critical and we are experienced in satisfying ISO26262 and DO-178B functional Safety requirements.

Applications include EV / HEV supervisory controllers, gasoline and diesel engine controllers, diesel exhaust aftertreatment controllers, injector driver modules, UAV engine controllers, chassis controllers, BMS master controllers and sensor-less BLDC motor controllers. For production, we utilize proven contract manufacturing partners to assure the highest quality at competitive prices. We have the experience to support all your custom ECU needs.

Systems, Controls, and Software engineering
Pi Innovo’s engineering team has been working on embedded model-based controls on large complex programs for more than 20 years. With systems, controls, software and hardware development engineers under one roof, Pi Innovo can work on all aspects of embedded control system delivery. Our systems engineers are fully versed in functional safety, and work with our customers to ensure that all project functional and non-functional requirements are fully understood. Our controls engineers develop controls models that fulfill all customer requirements. Our hardware engineering team is used to designing controller solutions that meet functionality, quality, and cost drivers, whether that’s re-applying circuits from our OpenECU library, or coming up with new custom designs. The software team at Pi Innovo is dedicated to maintaining and updating the base software, operating system, and build environment that makes OpenECU the most robust prototype and production controls development platform available. Putting all of this engineering capability together enables Pi Innovo to excel at delivering full production controller developments and associated applications, from discussion of the first requirements with the customer, to launch in volume production.
