Market Background

The potential for growth in the market for vertical flight applications, particularly in the UAM (Urban Air Mobility) market is very large. NASA defines UAM as a safe and efficient system for air passenger and cargo transportation within an urban area, inclusive of small package delivery and other urban Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) services, that supports a mix of onboard/ground-piloted and increasingly autonomous operations. A recent NASA commissioned study identifies >70 manufacturers worldwide ranging from large established companies such as Boeing and Airbus to numerous start ups all in initial development phases of vehicles to serve this market.
